1: You need to drink eight glasses of water a day

It's much more important to listen to your body's signals and drink water when you're thirsty than to force yourself to drink a specific amount of water every day.

 

2: Coffee and tea don't count towards your water intake


While it's true that caffeine can have a diuretic effect and cause you to lose water, the water in coffee and tea actually does count towards your daily hydration needs. In fact, studies have shown that moderate coffee and tea consumption (up to four cups a day) can actually be beneficial for hydration and other health outcomes.

 

3: You should drink only bottled water


Bottled water can be a convenient option when you're on the go, but it's not always necessary. If you live in an area with safe, clean tap water, there's no need to spend money on bottled water. In fact, many brands of bottled water are no different from tap water in terms of quality and safety. If you do choose to drink bottled water, be sure to recycle the bottles to minimize environmental impact.

 

4: You should drink water even when you're not thirsty


While it's important to stay hydrated, forcing yourself to drink water when you're not thirsty can actually do more harm than good. Drinking too much water can lead to a condition called hyponatremia, in which the sodium levels in your blood become diluted. This can cause symptoms like nausea, headache, and confusion. Instead of forcing yourself to drink water, pay attention to your thirst signals and drink water when you feel like you need it.
